MAR-TRAIN RACING - MotoSIX Six Nations Race Championship - Race Report by James Dickson

I'l start by thanking Tim and Sonya for one of the best weekends I have had racing in a while, nice to have the fun back in racing!

Well, the weekend kicked off by heading to the Mar-train camp to get my stuff packed in the truck and then it was off to catch the boat. It was a good trip over and got to the track on Friday first clip. We got our stuff unpacked and bikes ready. We had the whole N.ireland team in the one garage so a bit of a squeeze but the craic was good!

Alistair and I have never been to Donington so it was time to get a few miles in around the track. First we had a walk around with the whole Mar-train team. Half way around we got caught in a snow shower yes a SNOW shower! So we got very wet! After that, Alistair and I got some pedal power and done a few laps on the push bikes to see some lines and get ready for Saturday!

Saturday morning was wet but dried up for the free practice so I went out on the 1000cc Mar-train Suzuki. This was the first time I had put my leg on the bike and it was an eye opener! I can say it probrobably is the best superbike I have ridden! We only had 15minutes so I had to learn the track and the bike. Fortunately I seemed to get on OK. The track was very fast and one corner lead into the next so if you got one wrong the next 3 would be wrong! We came in after free practice made a few clicks here and there and looked at our gearing but it was spot on!

We were all set for qualifying until the rain started then it dried and then it started raining again, so tyres were in and out but we went out with full wets. I started slowly but was 9th for nearly the whole session which I would have been happy with but in the last few minutes, it dried up and I dropped a few places because I was having grip problems.

Race 1 was up and the N. Ireland team was leading already by this time thanks to the guys on the 600's and the side car guys! I had a good start and was happy with the passé but on the 5th lap I hit a false neutral down craner curves and hit the gravel trap about 120mph! I got back on track way down the pack but got a finish for the team!

Race 2, I got the same good start and by this time I felt like the bike was mine and felt good on it! I made a few good passes and felt like I could drop my lap times again and hung on mid pack. But on 6th lap the bike started shaking in the fast turns and was not holding the lines and I could not push so hard so I just got the head down and done my best to bring it home in one peace! When we came in we fond out the tyre had spun on the rim so it knocked the balance off the wheels.

By this time we had done enough to win the six nations and had our turn on the podium to get the silver wear and cheers all around. I had a ball and the win capped off the whole weekend!
